Closure

by Cameron Mount, published in Literature of War: At Home and Abroad.

It is not about the stars
nor the sadness
in a constellation.
Not the hollow joy carried
across static and distance,
or the empty shadow of love
that is really just the last
few moments of silence
before the shadows.
It is not about the wet fear,
the mourning arrangements,
or the black constriction
of the plastic bag
that covered your face.
